Waterproof rain pants

Rain pantsA large variety of rain pants is offered on today’s market but the good rain pants should be waterproof and breathable in order to keep you dry and top avoid overheating. When shopping for a rain gear and particularly for rain pants, you should keep in mind that some rain pants are more breathable than others and in order to determine which one are best for your needs, you should first determine what activities will they be used for. If the activities involve active and fast moving, then you definitely need more breathable rain pants.
The rain pants requirements should be applied also to the water-resistant jacket as part of your complete rain gear equipment. The ones made of Gortex are doing good job in most cases as they have proved to be quite durable and comfort due to the breathable materials. The breathable fabric of the rain pants prevents water from passing trough it and at the same time allows the sweat from your skin to escape so you feel dry and comfortable with the weather conditions.

Breathability and water resistance of rain pants:

Although the fabric of most rain pants is specified as waterproof and breathable it is never 100% waterproof and never 100% breathable. You may find that some rain pants are more water resistant while others are more breathable and the goal is to find the best option for your specific needs.
While there are certain tests to determine the class of waterproof fabric, the breathability specifications are a bit more subjective as there are no standard tests to measure rain pants breathability rating. Besides, people sweat in different ways which makes the choice of rain pants strongly individual in terms of waterproof and breathability ratings.
The breathability rating on some rain pants may be shown as the amount of water measured in grams which vapors through one square meter of the waterproof fabric for a period of one day (24 hours). Of course these ratings are measured in laboratory conditions and may be slightly different in open air and in different weather conditions and temperatures but are good indicator when comparing one pair of rain pants to another. It shouldn’t be a surprise that rain pants with higher breathability rating will tend to be more expensive in comparison with lower-rated rain pants of the same manufacturer. More breathable rain pants and jackets are needed for harsh weather conditions and for rigorous activities – for example if you are moving faster and spending more time in the rain.

When are rain pants needed?

Waterproof rain pantsYou will definitely need a good pair of rain pants if you are riding often bicycle or motorcycle in rainy or wet conditions. Even if the weather seems good at the moment, you better don’t forget the rain pants and jacket for your long 2-weel journey. For your full comfort and protection from the rain, it is advisable using rain boots and proper socks to keep your feet dry. However if you start to feel that your feet are getting wet, you may take advantage of the old trick putting plastic bags between the sock and the boots.

Some rain pants can offer remarkable features to extend your comfort while wearing them, putting them on or taking them off. Here are some of the features to be considered when looking for a good pair of rain pants:
